HLSCC Football League Gets Digicel Sponsorship

The 2009 H. Lavity Stoutt Community College “Premier League Football” was off to an exciting opening at the Paraquita Bay Campus on Friday 6 November, having benefitted from Digicel’s sponsorship worth $2,000.

Four female and three male teams have entered the tournament, which is being played on the College grounds on Friday afternoons. The tournament is taking the form of a small-goal style competition, comprising six to eight students per team, each having been assigned a member of faculty as coach.

The opening day saw three exciting games. For the females, the Cheetahs defeated the Panthers 4-0, while the Lionesses and the Pumas played to 0-0 draw. Two of the male teams, Tigers and Lions, battled to one-all when the final whistle was blown. The Jaguars is the other male team.

During the build-up to the tournament, Digicel’s Marketing Executive, Angela Burns, was on hand to present the sponsorship cheque to the College. Ms. Burns said Digicel was delighted to support the event and added that that the mobile phone company is looking forward to future involvement in College activities.

HLSCC Bursar, Marilyn Nibbs, who received the contribution on behalf of the College, thanked Digicel for the contribution and noted that the institution welcomes such partnership with the private sector.
