DIGICEL AND RITEWAY CHRISTMAS CASH GRAB WINNERS SAY THANKS!

January 24th 2012 - Life after Christmas Cash Grab

Road Town, Tortola - It is now just about a month after the hugely successful Digicel and Riteway Christmas Cash Grab promotion and all of the winners have now collected their prizes.

Many of them will be enjoying free devices and call credit from Digicel and free groceries from Riteway Food Markets for many months ahead, and so too, will their family and friends, since some are sharing their unexpected good fortune.

The Digicel and Riteway Christmas Cash Grab promotion saw hundreds of residents entering to qualify to win up to $60,000 in cash and prizes from 18 November to 21 December, 2011 by buying a Digicel phone, topping up by $15 or shopping for $15 or more at Riteway. Winners and wild card entrants were selected to grab vouchers in a giant inflatable cash vault which traveled to several Riteway locations on Tortola and Virgin Gorda.

The first person to enter the cash vault was Horace Cole, who was picked from the crowd at the launch. He walked away with $660 in Digicel call credit and $380 in cash.

Cole, who still has his winning receipt from Digicel carrying around in his wallet, stated: “This was a real good thing for me.  Digicel has saved me a lot of money because I won’t have to pay a bill for a while and I am also now more famous judging from the comments on my Facebook Page.”

For big winner Roy Richards, who single-handedly raked in close to $18,000 or 30% of the overall prizes, he is still in a state of disbelief, having never won anything in his life and then to win in such a massive way. “This came in at the right time for me, just before Christmas, so I was able to give lots of good gifts to my family and friends and put some cash towards my children’s bank accounts to save for their education,” he reflected.

Richards is also very excited about the fact that he doesn’t have to pay a phone bill for the next couple of years, saying that money will go towards some other need. “I encourage Digicel to keep up the good work and continue to give back to the people,” he added, while also calling for the company to launch its own full-fledged Internet service in the British Virgin Islands.

Sericka Corney of Anegada said it was just very surprising when she got the call and then went on to win over $2,000 in cash and prizes. “It was my first time winning this much and so I felt good and I appreciate it and I say thanks again to Digicel. I will continue to use Digicel and encourage my friends and family to also use Digicel.”

Other big winners included Joel Castillo and Laverne Hamilton of Tortola; Rondel Smith of Anegada and Celsus Jack from Jost Van Dyke. They all expressed sincere thanks to Digicel and Riteway for such an exciting and rewarding promotion.

The Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly, one of two charities benefiting for the second consecutive year from Digicel’s Christmas promotion, has also expressed gratitude to Digicel for its donation.
