DIGICEL BRINGS SPECIAL GIFT WITH ROLL OUT OF UNIQUE CELL SITE IN BVI
Thursday, 13 October 2011 – The Valley, Virgin Gorda: CEO of Digicel BVI Alan Bates today announced the completion of a major infrastructural project on Virgin Gorda in conformity with Government guidelines and one that will go a long way to improve service coverage on the island.
Over the past several months, Digicel engineers have been busy building a Monopine structure at Princess Quarters. The steel pole is painted and dressed with 112 faux pine branches, which convincingly disguises it, making it look like a giant pine tree.
“The new cell site, a first-of-its-kind to be introduced in the Territory, is hardly recognizable by the public,” the Digicel CEO stated. “This is part of Digicel’s commitment to comply with a Government mandate for co-location at sites wherever possible. Two of the operators have come together on this project, thereby reducing the number of cell sites in the area of Spanish Town.”
Bates said Digicel is really very excited to have spearheaded the construction of this monopine, not only because it will enhance coverage for Digicel customers on Virgin Gorda, but also because by its very nature, the site blends into the environment and will be able to accommodate all three existing GSM providers in Spanish Town.
He said with the commissioning of this new monopine, Digicel customers in The Baths and Princess Quarters will see an immediate improvement in service coverage, complimenting Digicel’s already excellent population coverage in other areas on Virgin Gorda.
Digicel was launched in the British Virgin Islands in November 2008 and boasts best network coverage, best value products and best customer care.
