Large Crowd Turns Out to Cheer BVI’s Top Powerlifters and Body Builders

 

Tuesday, 10 March 2009 – Road Town, Tortola: Digicel joined forces with the BVI Powerlifting and Fitness Federation (BVIPFF) to host the 1st Annual Powerlifting and Body Building Invitational Championships at Long Bay Beach, Beef Island yesterday.

 

Seventeen (17) athletes took part representing four gyms on the island – Mad Dog, Cutting Edge, The Block and Body Image Fitness Centre. They competed in several categories and weight classes, including Bench Press, Jerk Clean and Press, Dead Lift and Squat.

 

“The aim of forming a BVI Powerlifting and Body Building team is to promote the sport in the territory and to promote fitness and health consciousness as well,” stated Steve George, BVIPFF President. “We are very grateful to Digicel for coming on board and partner with us to host this 1st annual event and we are expecting the event to only get bigger and better in the coming years.”

 

The results of the competition show Noel Isaac placing 1st, followed by Sydney James, Giovanni Herbert and Jehiah Maduro.

 

The winners for each category and weight class will be representing the BVI in St. Thomas May 14-16, 2009 at the 3rd North American Powerlifting Federation Caribbean Bench Press and Powerlifting Championships; in the Cayman Islands on June 20, 2009 at the IFPA Pro Universe Muscle Classic; in Miami from August 4-6, 2009 at the 12th NAPF-FESUPO Pan American Powerlifitng Championships and in Guatemala in June at the North American and Pan American Powerlifting Championships.
