Digicel supports BVI Festival - Coney Island
Thousands to Enjoy Bigger, Better Coney Island for Territory’s Emancipation Celebrations
Thursday, 23 July 2009 – Road Town, Tortola: Recognizing the importance of the annual cultural celebrations in the British Virgin Islands, Digicel today announced it has collaborated with the Road Town Festival Committee to make this year extra special for the thousands of persons who will participate in this year’s festivities.
Digicel has entered into an agreement to sponsor the Coney Island games in the Algenon Festiville, starting this Friday July 24th, 2009.
According to Chairman of the Coney Island sub-committee James Lettsome, with the support of Digicel, the committee has been able to source Bigger, Better rides for the enjoyment of everyone this year. He said: “The main attraction will be the addition of new rides and the fact that children will be able to ride free for one night with the other nights going at reduced prices compared to last year. This could only have been possible with the generous support of Digicel and we would like to express our gratitude to them for coming on board and sponsoring the rides for BVI Festival 2009.”
Digicel Acting CEO Johnny Ingle said Digicel is extremely excited to be celebrating with the people of the British Virgin Islands at this time. “Digicel is keen to support events that matter to the communities in each of its markets. We recognize the importance of this emancipation celebration to the people of this territory and are really delighted to support this year’s Coney Island. We know that everyone, especially the children, will totally enjoy the Bigger, Better rides that the committee has been able to source.”
The Coney Island rides will be free for all special needs children on Sunday July 26th, while everyone will be able to ride for free on Wednesday July 29th. All other nights, rides will cost $2.
BVI Festival 2009 will be celebrated from July 24th to August 8th under the theme “Remember the Time, BVI Festival 2009”. Pre-activities included the Prince and Princess Show on July 19th and Gospel Fest to be held on July 24th. Activities in Road Town will be followed by East End/Long Look festivities August 3rd to 5th and celebrations in Carrot Bay from August 6th to 8th.
The public is encouraged to support these activities for BVI Festival 2009.
