OVERWHELMING INTEREST BY BVI BUSINESSES IN DIGICEL/CISCO PBX TECHNOLOGY

May 25th 2011 - Digicel Cisco Seminar

Road Town, Tortola: The Territory is expected to see a boost in the number of local businesses using Digicel/Cisco PBX technology to enhance the efficiency of their operations, following the successful hosting of two half day seminars at the Treasure Isle Hotel on Tuesday.

Close to 40 participants from 25 local businesses spent the day learning more about Wireless, Fixed Voice, Data Centre and Networking Solutions and interacting with professionals from Digicel and its partners - Cisco Systems Inc., which is based in San José, California; Netxar Technologies out of Puerto Rico; and Unified Network Development Systems Limited (UNDSL) from Trinidad and Tobago.

Facilitators included CEO Alan Bates and Business Solutions Manager Mark Lawton of Digicel BVI; VP Sales Greg Skinner of Netxar; Senior IT Consultant Arvind Gooding and Sales Manager Nadine Ramdial of UNDSL; and Territory Manager Corbin Pitts of Cisco.

“The objective of the seminar was to showcase how Digicel, through its partners, can deliver unified communications systems in the BVI,” Bates said. “We had an overwhelming response and great feedback from the public and private sector, from Managing Directors to IT Administrators and our professionals at Digicel stand ready to assist you further.”

The Unified Communication System is a next generation replacement for the traditional PBX system offering the same functions, plus voicemail, voicemail to email, WiFi, auto attendant, single number reach, Ethernet switch, firewall and VPN and fax support.

Digicel has been providing these services in the British Virgin Islands for the past two years, offering a technology upgrade, a total solution from one provider, cost savings, seamless access to world-class engineering and a wide range of value-added services. Close to 400 phones are already deployed throughout the islands.

Companies represented at Tuesday’s seminar included the Financial Services Commission, Airports Authority, Telephone Services Management Unit, Health Services Authority, Her Majesty’s Prison, BVI Tourist Board, HLS Community College, Road Town Wholesale, Mossack Fonseca, Ogier, Walkers, Deloitte, Maples and Pussers.
