Tahesia Competes in Florida - June 5
June 6, 2011
Yesterday, I competed in Clermont, Florida in the 100 meters. I ran 10.89 in the preliminaries; however, it was quite windy. The wind was 4.6. My intention was to only run the first round, but after making a mistake at the end and the excessive wind, I decided to compete in the finals.
The weather in Clermont, which is just outside of Orlando, was extremely hot. I don't even know how I survived running the final round. I felt like I was trapped in a sauna. Because it was so hot, I had to play it really smart about how I warmed up for the finals because I didn't want to exhaust my body.
In the finals, I ran 10.97. The wind was 2.6, 0.6 over the allowable 2.0 wind reading. I am very pleased with this race because I did a great job executing the ending of my race. However, I didn't get the maximum push for the first 3 steps of my drive phase, which caused me to be slightly slower out of the blocks than usual. I am not too disappointed with that, because that is something that can easily be fixed.
At this moment, I am sore. This is the first time I've been sore after a competition this season. I ran 2 sub 11 times in one day, so that would explain it. They might have been windy, but I believe that if I can do it windy, I can also do it legal.
I am trying to get into the Adidas meet this weekend, but if I don't, I will not compete until the beginning of July at the Hampton Games in Trinidad. This would allow me to give my body a break from competing and get some good training in leading up to the World Championships in Korea.
I would like to thank my family, friends and fans for all your encouragement and support. It really means a lot and goes a long way when things get hard. I would also like to thank my sponsor, Digicel, for their support and setting up this blog (www.digicelbvi.com) to keep the BVI informed with what's going on in my athletic career.
Until I write again
