Tahesia wins in Rio!
May 27, 2011
I finally concluded my 4 competition tour in Brasil. I had a great time on this trip and for the most part, I am satisfied with my results.
In Uberlandia, I didn't run the way I expected. I finished the 100m in 11.53 seconds with a positive 0.7 wind to place 5th. I was very disappointed and quite upset with the starter. I lost the race from the beginning because the starter shot the gun before I was completely up in my set position. In my mind, all I was saying was, "I can't believe that starter shot the gun before everyone (I) was ready." I should have regrouped and not let that be a distraction, but what can I say "things happen."
My next competition in Sao Paulo was much better in reference to time. I placed 4th with 11.26 in a positive 1.8 wind. I got out pretty good in this race, but I lost control at the end. After my race, I knew I needed to go back to the drawing board. I needed to do a better job executing the phases in my race.
I had 4 days before my next competition, so I trained hard the next two days to shock my system and wake it up. The day before my race, I didn't need to do much, so I skipped going to the track and I did a light shakeout in the hotel hallway. I also went to the mall to get my mind off track for a bit and bought a Brasilian bikini bathing suit.
I ran 11.14 with a positive 0.5 wind and won the 100 meters in Rio. I was extremely happy with my performance, because I finally put a good race together. The time I ran was .01 off my personal best, so I am looking forward to improving my time this year very soon.
I've been in Brasil for 15 days now. Even though I enjoy Brasil, I am ready to go home to my husband and son. It is 4:57am and I'm on my way to the airport. I am not a big fan of early flights, but as much as I miss my family, I am happy to be on the first flight out of here.
