I have been competing in track and field for over 10 years. It came together in high school and I continued to progress in my Collegiate and professional career. As an athlete, I have traveled all over the world and gained numerous accomplishments along the way. I am the 2 time champion of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in 2006 and 2010 in the 100 meters. I also won the gold medal at the CAC Championships in Cuba last year. The 2008 World Indoor championship is another major competition I hold dear to my heart. At this meet I placed third in the 60 meter capturing the bronze medal.
Track is a very demanding sport. Since I started my professional career in 2006, I have been through a series of ups and down. As I have grown, both in my personal life and my athletic career, I have seen the development and consistency in my performances. This growth has allowed me to better understand my body, the sport, and what it takes to compete on a high caliber stage. In the past, my battles with injuries caused my mental state after my recovery process, to hinder my performances. This is something I worked on tirelessly. I have learned the art of a positive mentality and how to use that positive attitude to improve my physical performance. I once heard a pastor say “Your mentality shapes your reality which setup up your possibilities.” That message was so powerful to me that I continuously remind myself of the importance of a positive mentality in my life and in my sport as I compete among the best. I believe that I am great and that I do not need to step on the line with any doubts. I give it 100% each time.
I am currently getting ready to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India on October 6th and 7th. I will be running the 100 meters where I am aiming to get the gold. This is my second time competing at the Commonwealth Games. My first time was in 2007 in Australia where I placed 5th in the finals. Training is going really good even though this is the longest I have competed in a season. It is a learning experience and I enjoy the lessons learned along the way.
For the people who continue to support me, I want to personally say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I would continue to work hard and it makes my task more enjoyable knowing you support me along my athletic career. To my sponsor Digicel, I would love to say thank you for your support and encouragement along the way.
This is the first of many blogs. I will keep you abreast on my future training and competitions.
